Her ABC TV commentating W-League debut that is. I was excited to hear that both Chez and the lovely Amy Taylor were joining the ABC TV commentary team this year (although Julie Murray and Liz Deep-Jones were also very good last year), but it's particulary exciting to have someone like Salisbury in the box - who clearly has such great knowledge of all the girls playing.
Apart from the a few cliche slips in general sort of play (She did say, if Canberra can score then its one-one and then it's really anyones game), I found her comments insightful and interesting. Following on from Steve's 'wow, she looks like a great player general comments', Cheryl went into details on the girls game with some interesting constructive type criticism. Like on Tameka Butt, who scored a cracker of a goal against Canberra, that yes, she could be a great player for the Matildas but stepping up onto that international stage isn't an easy step, at that level Cheryl said, everyone is just as fit and quick as you and takes a bit of adjusting too and that Tameka probably wasn't quite there yet. She also had some interesting things to say about Jo Burgess' game. It's was refreshing to hear the women's game given the proper analytical commentary it deserves and it's nice to see Australia's greatest ever footballer providing it, as well as adding some truly girly aspects. Like when Cheryl commented on Canberra's Taiwanese striker Shu-o Tseng's bright purple hair and Amy popped up on the sidelines with a cheeky 'You've certainly had some hairstyles over the years too Chez,' to which Cheryl replied 'Um, I don't think we'll go there Amy.' Smart women's football commentary with a fun female side as well? Sounds perfect to me.
