So very late last night Australian time, unfortunately the Aussie girls had their first loss of the AFC under-16 tournament when DPR Korea came back to clinch a 4-3 win in the 85th minute. Australia had scored first, in just the 8th minute through Brittany Whitfield and but then Korea equalised in the 18th minute. But Foord scored again in the 28th minute to put Australia up 2-1. Korea then found the back of the net again just before half-time, in the 37th minute, to bring the score back to 2-2. Emily van Egmond then scored to put Australia up 3-2 after 64minutes, before goals to DPR Korea in the 77th and 85th minute meant that they progress to the final, to play the Korea Republic. It now means Australia must win the third-place play-off against Japan to make next year's under-17 World Cup. But they have already beaten Japan in the tournament, 3-1 in the group stages.
Match report is up at the AFC website.
